While every day is a chance for a new beginning, there is something special about the first day of the New Year. The old year is behind us, and the New Year stretches in front of us like an uncharted path full of opportunity and promise.
The New Year follows soon after the Winter Solstice, which encourages each of us to let our individual light and gifts shine out to the world. What better way (or time) to do this than with the start of a new calendar cycle?
It’s easy to focus on all the “bad” things that have happened in the world and in our personal lives, and even easier to feel as if there is nothing that we can do about it. When we look at all the problems in our world, we can quickly feel overwhelmed and insignificant. However, each one of us is here for a purpose. Each action we take – no matter how small – can impact others in ways we could never imagine.
Mother Teresa summed it up beautifully:
I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.
How can you turn this New Year into a series of taken opportunities that help you shine your light out to the world and improve not only your life, but also the lives of others with your presence and gifts?
What leap of faith do you need to take to do so?
We each have the gift of 366 days (2016 is a leap year!) to create ripples. Imagine how wonderful it would be to look back on 2016 on December 31 next year and see the impact of each and every one of them has had on your – and our – world.
I wish you all the best for 2016: love, peace, joy, good health and laughter!
