It’s almost 2018. If you’re like many people, you’re spending this last weekend of 2017 reflecting back on the year and thinking about the upcoming year…and what you would like to accomplish over the next 365 days.
While losing weight, exercising more and avoiding carbs are all admirable (and healthy!) New Year’s resolutions, I took a different route in 2017. Last year I made only one resolution, but it was a big one:
I resolved to live my life courageously and authentically, aligned with my purpose, gifts and interests, and consciously overcoming any fears that might try to hold me back.
I’ll be the first to admit that it wasn’t always easy. There were times when I had to really focus on breathing through and negating irrational fears to move forward, such as when I quit my “day job” and walked away from my rent-controlled apartment in San Francisco and put my belongings in storage…and then later shipped those belonging to Guatemala. But the rewards were immense. I have found joy and purpose in my daily life. I’ve had some very exciting experiences, including living in Guatemala, visiting several countries in Asia, writing my next book, discovering an even deeper insight into how I can help others, and building a home in Guatemala (who would have thought it?). Along the way, I’ve made new friends and was approached to host a weekly radio show on Courageous Authentic Living. None of these things would have happened if I hadn’t focused my energy on my 2017 New Year’s resolution.
So, I’d like to challenge you in 2018. Are you living your life to its full potential? Are you living courageously? Thinking back on your life to date, do you have any regrets of what “could have been” that you’d like to erase this year?
If you’re up to the challenge and want a fun way to get started, take the below quiz to see how courageous you are.
I wish you and yours a wonderful 2018 filled with love, joy and courage!
